The aim of this course is to introduce the fundamental theories and principles of physical geography. It begins by looking at the Earth’s biophysical environment considering the earth’s place in the universe, its origin and development and the nature and evolution of the earth’s surface. It considers mechanisms of weathering, mass wasting and denudation that operates to carve the global surface into the spectacular array of landforms that characterise Earth. The course goes on to deal with the the global atmospheric system and the natural hydrological system and the natural human induced changes to which this has been subjected. Finally, the course deals with the biological world, how this has evolved over time and the role natural and human factors in shaping its patterns.

This course, Primary Teaching Methods 2, builds from what is learnt in Primary Teaching Methods 1 and what is practiced in Teaching Practice 1. The focus of this course is on principles of assessment, classroom management and evaluation and reporting. In addition, this course introduces the Vanuatu National Syllabus for Primary Years 4-6. Trainees will plan, deliver and assess lessons on Years 4-6 Primary content and apply classroom management skills in microteaching sessions. They will also critically examine samples of the types of assessments used in primary classrooms in order to consolidate their new skills in assessment design.
